Dermochelys coriacea

Leatherback turtle’s description

I am the biggest turtle in the world and I can track my preys more than 1000m under the surface ! Steady, I migrate over thousands of kilometers, sometimes during several years, in order to link my breeding and feeding sites.

Where do I live ?

Australia and Papua New Guinea are two of my main egg-laying spots, but I swim in all the oceans of the world.

Which threats ?

Depending on the regions, men hunt my eggs to feed, unwillingly capture me in their fishing nets, or build hotels on my egg-laying beaches. And these are only some of the threats that affect me !

Kiwiwho’s word to save the leatherback turtle

I am protected in several countries, but if fishing me or hunting my eggs are not better regulated, my specie will continue to decline. Global warming must absolutely be mastered too !
