Cotton top tamarin’s description

I am very easy to recognize : I have a great white mane around my head. I live almost exclusively on trees, where I am at ease : despite my small size, I am not afraid of making jumps of more than 3 meters between branches.

Where do I live ?

I am not easy to find ! I only live in some Columbian regions, in South America.

Which threats ?

I am able to adapt to a wide variety of habitats, but it isn’t enough : deforestation goes too fast for me. In Columbia, it is mainly linked with agriculture. Before, during the 1970’s, laboratories were also seeking me for studies about certain cancers.

Kiwiwho’s word to save the cotton top tamarin

Il est interdit de me vendre depuis 1974 ; je ne suis donc plus menacé par les laboratoires. En 1987, le Projet Tamarin a vu le jour. Depuis, des bénévoles, scientifiques et membres du gouvernement apprennent to me connaître et sensibilisent la population to l’importance de mon existence.
