African grey parrot’s description

Of all the parrots, I am the one having the best elocution. The most famous of my specie was called Alex, and its intelligence competed with the one of great monkeys or dolphins…and even of a 5years old human child.

500,000 to
12 millions

About 50 cm wingspan

From 400 to 500 grammes

Where do I live ?

I live in occidental and central Africa, from Sierra Leone to Angola and Tanzania.

Which threats ?

I am one of the main domesticated birds in Europe, in United States and in the Middle-East : Since 1975, more than 1,3 million of mine have been captured, mostly to be sold to individuals.

Kiwiwho’s word to save the African grey parrot

Since 2016, my international trade is formally forbidden all over the world. If this decision is respected, it should raise my numbers anew. However, I am yet to be protected from my habitat destruction.
